Carmel is a central Indiana city that has a population of about 85,000 people. The city is situated in Hamilton County and is located about 23 miles north of Indianapolis. Carmel is the fifth largest city in Indiana.

In 1837, Carmel was platted under the name Bethlehem. The majority of the original settlers of the city were Quakers. In 1846, a post office was established under the name Carmel. Almost 30 years later the city’s name was changed from Bethlehem to Carmel. The same year, in 1874, Carmel was incorporated. The city’s first traffic signals were installed in 1924.

There are many things to see and do around Carmel. The city’s farmers market, founded in 1998, is one of the largest in Indiana and houses a large number of vendors from around the state. The farmers market provides wonderful opportunities for visitors and residents to purchase delicious produce from around the state. In addition to a farmers market, Carmel is also home the Carmel City Center. The mixed-use development is located in the heart of the city and is the location of the Center for the Performing Arts. The city is also home to two large shopping centers. The Village Park Plaza and Clay Terrace are home to various shops and restaurants.

Carmel experiences weather that is characterized by warm temperatures during the summer and cold temperatures during the months of winter. June, July, and August are usually the warmest months of the year in Carmel. Daytime temperature highs range from the mid to upper-80s on average during these months. Record temperatures have been recorded as reaching into the 100s. Efficient cooling systems should be installed in residents’ homes. In addition to efficient cooling systems, residents should also invest in heating units. During the winter months, temperatures often dip well below freezing and snow is very common. Residents should install either heat pumps or furnaces in their homes. During the coldest months of the year, these systems could literally be lifesavers.
